Agent Class: Evaluating Homes for Earthquakes

seismograph_modern3f0554

Portland is home to a lot of beautiful vintage and antique homes, and it is part of what makes some neighborhoods so unique. But homes that are over 20 years old were built with less strict codes and older technology, especially in regards to earthquakes. Learning to look for earthquake retrofitting can help Realtors avoid unexpected deal-breakers.

If your client is buying or selling an older home, or wants to ensure their newer home is up-to-date, come to this free credit class to learn the new laws, safety tips, and ways to be prepared. With something as valuable as your home, it pays to be prepared. Topics include:

  • Understanding Seismic Retrofitting
  • Regulations
  • Avoiding Deal-breakers

Presenter: Steve Gemmell of Earthquake Tech, LLC
Date: Wednesday, April 16, 10 am – 11:30 am
Location: NE Branch of Oregon First
5136 NE Garfield Ave
Certified Credit Hours: 1 1/2

Schoolhouse Rock – 40 Years Later!

Remember the old “How a Bill Becomes a Law?” With the increased involvement of the government in loan origination I thought it would be valuable to look at “How a Loan becomes a Qualified Mortgage” but I promise there will be no catchy little song!

As a Real Estate Professional, getting a handle on the new Qualified Mortgage requirements, credit scoring and how these changes impact the mortgage world is essential.

What we will discuss:

  • Is Lending’s Big Brother, Uncle Sam?
  • Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Rules that went into effect 1/10/2014
  • Defining a Qualified Mortgage
  • Effect on Consumers
  • Effect on Lenders
  • The future of lending

Gary Boyer is a Certified Mortgage Planner with NW Mortgage Group who is an industry veteran and a top proder with over 200 transactions closed in 2013.

Mike Dolman is the Head of Underwriting with NW Mortgage Group and oversaw underwriting for over $800 million in closed loans last year.

New Agent Profile: Pam Davis

Welcome Pam Davis! Pam is the newest agent addition to our office, but she is anything but unfamiliar. Having been the Transaction Coordinator for the brokerage for over a year, Pam not only brings spunk and a good sense of humor to the office, but a genuine care and quality customer service for both agents and clients.

How long have you been in real estate?

Just licensed as of 1/22/14!!

Do you have a real estate specialty?

My specialty is Real Estate Office Administration. I am more of a behind-the-scenes type person so I try to make sure all the documents/paperwork are turned in and processed in a timely fashion, either by agents or clients, whatever the case may be.

What is your favorite area, event or restaurant in Portland and why?

My favorite restaurants in Portland are Bluefin Sushi and Beaches (in Vancouver). I really like Bluefin because their Sushi is always fresh & yummy. We have always been taken care so well when we go to Beaches. Our permanent waitress is Lindsay, she is awesome. The food is great too!

I like the Northeast area of Portland, it just feels like home and the people are so nice wherever we go.

What is an unexpected hobby or talent you have?

An unexpected hobby is that I like to color Doodle Art pictures with colored pencils (I even framed one of them for my home!) A talent that I have is that I can sew. With the help of my wonderful husband (fiance at the time) and soon to be mother-in-law I created/sewed my own wedding dress.

Why Oregon First?

I am licensed with Oregon First for many reasons, but most importantly I have really enjoyed working on Rex’s team and felt his expertise offered a great opportunity to expand my knowledge and experience in the real estate field.
